项目摘要

The purpose of this study was to establish a new prenatal diagnostic method using fetal nucleated cells in maternal peripheral blood. The results of the study showed several new findings as follows ;1. Fetal nucleated cells in maternal peripheral blood decrease in frequency with time after normal pregnancy and delivery. These cells disappear from maternal circulation 3 months after delivery in most, if not all, mothers.2. Fetal nucleated cells in maternal peripheral blood become undetectable 3 months after delivery in most, if not all, cases of fetomaternal hemorrhage the same as in cases of normal pregnancy and delivery.3. Fetal sex determination using fetal nucleated cells in maternal peripheral blood with FISH is possible. However, considering the time and labor required for the analysis of a much larger number of cells, the enrichment of fetal cells is needed before an analysis by this method.4. The enrichment of fetal nucleated cells in maternal peripheral blood by fluorescence activated cell sortings is possible. Further improvement of this diagnostic method is needed to use in clinical medicine.
