项目摘要

本研究の一つの出発点は、『ヒポクラテス集成』と、紀元前5世紀の歴史家トゥキュディデスの古典文献学的な方法による考察を通して浮び上がってきた、ミアスマの観念をめぐる考察である。一般に「汚染」を意味するこのギリシア語の用いられるコンテクストは、たんに医学あるいは自然的・物質的領域に限定されてはいない。それは宗教的・法的さらには道徳的な意味での罪悪と、その結果として生する災厄にも重なっている。それは汚染からの「浄め」を意味するギリシア語カタルシスの多義性に通じているのである。ここには癒し、赦し、救いに関わる、ギリシア社会のエートスの問題が存在している。それ故一つには、本研究の考察の範囲は、古代ギリシア・ローマ世界全体に及ぶことになり、古代末期のキリスト教の成立までが視野に入ってくる。直接の研究対象も、医学・歴史・哲学文献の外まで広がった。第二に、文献学を越えて、宗教学ないし文化人類学的な視点を、方法論的にも取り入れることが必要になった。自己限定を自らに課してきたこれまでの私の研究姿勢は、そのため大きな変更が迫られることになる。このような事情から本年度の研究発表物は、数のうえでは、やや乏しい結果に終った。しかし悲劇詩人、弁論家、あるいは千福音書をめぐっての考察の手がかりを、本年度は様々な研究会で口頭発表することができた。とりわけ長い間懸案であったエピダウロス碑文について、ある程度まとめを付ける見通しができたことは、大きな収獲であった。私は現代倫理学のトピックであるバイオエシックスに対して、あえて禁欲的な態度を保ってきた。しかしこれからは時流に関わりなく、自分の思いを表現しようという意欲がわいてきたのも、本研究にとりかかったことの成果であると考えている。
