项目摘要

研究課題「アメリカにおける分析哲学の変貌に関する研究」の内、本年度はその「研究実施計画」に記載の通り、「自然化された認識論」の問題に焦点を当てて、研究を行った。その結果、クワインの提唱した認識論の自然化の問題は、近代の観念説的認識論の成立事情と深く関わるものであるということ、とりわけ、認識論の枠組となった主観主義的観念説の基盤そのものが、実は近代科学の振興、特に古代原子論の復活と密接に結びついたものであり、観念説自体がすでに暗黙の内に自然学(自然科学)的論理を維持する形で営まれていたことが、判明した。しかし、それにも関わらず、近代認識論は、この観念説の基本性格を歪め、自然科学とは独立に自然科学そのものの基礎を与えることが可能であるとの幻想を抱くようになる。したがって、現代の「自然化された認識論」のテ-ゼの是非を問うことは、西洋近代のこうした、自然学的探究を土台として成立する観念説の意味を解明するとともに、その変貌による非自然主義的認識論の成立、および、それと表裏をなす、観念説と自然学の乖離のプロセスの是非を問うことを、要求する。そこで、本年度は、古代の原子論まで溯って、それが粒子説自然学として復活する過程を検討し、それによって成立する観念説の基本的性格を、デカルト、ガッサンディ、ロックにおいて確認し、その変貌過程を、主としてバ-クリ、カント、リ-ドについて検討した。その成果の一部は、4つの論文として公表される予定である(詳細は「11.研究発表」の項を参照)。この研究は、その完成まで、まだ数年を要すると考えられ、平成7年度は「近代表象主義に対するデイヴィドソン的言語哲学の射程に関する研究」という研究課題の下に、科学研究費補助金を現在申請中である。
