本研究は、ジャイナ教白衣派の聖典語であるアルダ・マガダ語で書かれたUttaradhyayana-sutra(N.V.Vaidyaの刊本:Uttaradhyayana-sutram,Poona,1959)の文法解析を、同僚の逢坂雄美教授(理学博士)の協力を得ながら、パーソナルコンピユ-タによって解明することを目的として遂行された。まず、Uttaradhyayana-sutraに現れる全語葉の正順と逆引索引を作成した。アルダ・マガダ語には日本語における所謂|て・に・を・は|がなく、名詞の変化は総て語尾変化で表されるため、これらの索引が必要不可欠である。また、動詞の分類では、単語の語尾に着目して整理された逆引索引が重要な役割を果たすことになる。動詞の分析を実行するに当たって動詞の語尾変化と動詞語幹のデータベースを作成した。語尾情報はR.Pischelの文法書から収集した。語棄分析に動詞情報のみ使うと、常にデータベースの全情報との比較検索を必要とするため、多大な演算時間を消費してしまうので、このことを避ける目的で不変化詞(接続詞、副詞、間投詞)に関するデータも蓄積した。データベースに収録された種々の語尾と単語とのパターンマッチングを行い、活用形を決定し、それらの語尾変化を新たなデータベースに収録した。名詞の格変化についても類似の手法によって解析できるようにした。ただ、現段階では本プログラムでは、品詞・態・格等は異なるが、同じ語尾変化をする単語(語尾変化のパターンが適合するもの)については総て出力されるので、今後マッチングデータの非決定数を限りなく少なくしていき、最終的に一つに絞り込めるよう、判定条件を整理していかなければならない。同様にして、他の4つのテキスト(Ayaramga-Sutta,Suyagadamga,Dasavcyaliya,Isibhasiyaim)も文法解析して十分な量の規則を収集・包括し、近い将来、アルダ・マガダ語の文法規則を集大成したいと考える。
