生成文法理論をもちいて日英語の機能範疇について、言語学的失語症学の立場から対照研究を行なうことを目的とした。今年度は研究対象項目として、格助詞、後置詞、時制、否定辞、補文標識、疑問詞を取りあげ、失語症患者に対して実験・調査を行なった。まず英語の失文法失語患者の発話資料を分析し、言語の普遍的な機能範疇の崩壊パターンに関する作業仮説を作った。次に日本語について、健常人および国内11機関の協力を得て、百名ほどの患者に対して個別に調査、実験を行なった。さらにロマンス諸語、ゲルマン諸語の失文法発話に関する既存の資料を分析し、日本語資料とともに仮説の検証を試みた。成果として、(1)時制、否定辞、後置詞については、障害の度合が少なく保持されやすいことが、発話分析、文容認性判断実験から明らかになった。(2)一方、補文標識、疑問詞は、発話では削除され、文容認性判断実験では誤答が目だち、重度に障害されていることが分かった。(3)失文法失語で保持される項目と、喪失されやすい項目とを区別する概念として、当該項目が現われる位置が、項位置(A位置)であるか、非項位置(Aバ-位置)かが重要であることが判明した。この結果は最近の生成理論である「ミニマリスト主義」(Chomsky 1993,1994)の枠組みでは次のように説明できることを示し、新たに「経済性の仮説」を提案した。つまり失語症患者では、脳損傷により文構築・解析を行なうための作業容量が減少している。従って大きな構造より小さな構造、つまり経済的な構造を持つ文の方が好まれる。言い換えれば、「失文法失語の言語では、文構築に関与する「合併(merge)」という操作の数が少なければ少ない構造ほど保持されやすい。」ということになる。今後の課題として、素性照合(feature checking)の障害という観点から、日本語の主格助詞、疑問文などについて、実験を重ねさらに詳しく調べることが必要と思われる。
