Our research has produced the following results :(1) From the axiological perspective, it became possible to establish"dignity"as a theoretically relevant concept and its importance was clarified.(2) The German concept of"Menschenwurde/human dignity", either from the perspective of the deontologist Habermas (human dignity/ dignity of human life) or the utilitarian Birnbacher (normatively strong dignity/normatively weak dignity) was clarified as having a double structure, which has also been widely accepted.(3) While considering German"dignity,"it was found that there is a new strand emerging in the debate looking at"physicality" as an important aspect. A paradigm shift could result from this, which may become significant.(4) Research made clear that historical studies on the concept of"dignity"in Japan have scarcely been conducted. Our research tackled this issue, and found that in Japan,"dignity of life" acts as the basis of the concept "dignity,"an idea closely connected to physicality. Point (3) above is closely related, and this is an issue of utmost philosophical importance.(5) The significance of laying down a foundation of"human dignity" in establishing"human rights" was clarified.(6) Also, it was pointed out that the historical development of"dignity"in Europe might have had some non-European influences.Some research results have been published in the Japanisches Jahrbuch for Wissenschaft und Ethik vol.1/vol.2 (2010/2011). Also, an upcoming publication is in the editing process (Gerhard Schonrich/Yasushi Kato (Hgg.), Wurde als Wert, mentis Verlag). Its Japanese translation is also planned. As for (4) in particular, Prof. Yasushi Kato and Prof. Keiko Matsui Gibson gave a presentation"Bioethics in Modern Japan: the case for 'Dignity of life'" at Bielefeld University in Germany. Furthermore, we provided the public lecture series"Modern Ethics: Thinking of'human dignity'"at the NHK Culture Center in Nagoya.

研究结果表明：（1）从价值论的角度，确立了“尊严”作为一个具有理论意义的概念的可能性，明确了“尊严”的重要性。(2)德国的“人的尊严/人的尊严”概念，无论是从义务论者哈贝马斯（人的尊严/人的生命的尊严）还是从功利主义者伯恩巴赫（规范上强的尊严/规范上弱的尊严）的角度来看，都被澄清为具有双重结构，这也被广泛接受。(3)在考虑德国的“尊严“时，人们发现，在辩论中出现了一个新的趋势，将“身体”视为一个重要方面。这可能会导致范式转变，这可能会变得很重要。(4)研究表明，在日本几乎没有对“尊严“概念进行历史研究。我们的研究解决了这个问题，发现在日本，“生命的尊严”是“尊严“概念的基础，这是一个与身体密切相关的概念。上述第（3）点是密切相关的，这是一个具有极端哲学重要性的问题。(5)阐明了为确立“人权”奠定“人的尊严”基础的重要性。(6)此外，还有人指出，“尊严“在欧洲的历史发展可能受到了一些非欧洲的影响，一些研究成果已发表在《日本科学年鉴》第1卷/第2卷（2010/2011年）上。此外，即将出版的出版物正在编辑过程中（格哈德Schonrich/Yasushi Kato（Hgg.），Wurde als Wert，mentis Verlag）.日语翻译也在计划中。特别是（4），加藤康史教授和松井惠子吉布森教授在德国的比勒费尔德大学发表了题为“现代日本的生命伦理学：生命尊严”的演讲。此外，在名古屋的NHK文化中心举办了“现代伦理学：对”人的尊严“的思考”系列讲座。
