We recently demonstrated that raising the bite (bite-raised) significantly decreased cell proliferation, survival, and differentiation of newborn cells into neurons in aged senescence-accelerated mice (SAMP8). Chronic stress, even chronic mild stress, decrease Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) and increases in circulating glucocorticoid levels lead to apoptosis in the hippocampus. Here we examined the effect of the bite-raised condition on BDNF, deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling-positive apoptotic cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) of SAMP8 mice.
