For investigating the mechanical and hydraulic coupling properties of rock joints under the condition of deep underground, a new shear-flow coupling test apparatus has been developed by improving past shearing test apparatus with radial flow developed by our group and the shear-flow behavior of rock joint under lateral flow condition has been clarified. During the apparatus development, by a great number of try-and-error test, it is found that the design requirement (like rotation restriction and lateral flow ) is satisfactory. From the experiment, it is found that in case of rotation restriction for upper box the effect of is not remarkable to shear-stress, and when increasing the normal stress on rock joint, the change trendence of permeability and normal displacement is different and the mechanism is complicated. On the other hand, in case of low normal stress that failure is not occurred along contact surface, there is no effect of rotation restriction for upper box. Through this research, a high-performance of shear-flow coupling test apparatus is completed, and experiment method is also established, and hence it is possible to make further development for practicable use.In the future, through the numerous experiment by using this apparatus the test results of shear-flow coupling properties of rock joints will be collected and accumulated, and the mechanism will be further analyzed. Furthermore, the application of this test technology and simulation method to the filed will be conducted.
