Oncogenic viruses and malignant tumors in tropical Africa

我们对东非肯尼亚西部的恶性肿瘤进行了流行病学、组织学和病毒学研究。初步结果如下：1）艾滋病相关的卡波西肉瘤，其在躯干上表现出播散性皮肤丘疹，数量正在增加，2）宫颈癌，其怀疑与人乳头瘤病毒（HPV）有关，在恶性肿瘤中的发病率正在增加，并且在艾滋病流行地区患者的平均年龄正在变得更年轻，3）血管瘤样Kaposi肉瘤在组织学上数量增多。4）超微结构上，我们发现Kaposi肉瘤细胞有三种类型，分别向内皮细胞、周细胞和平滑肌细胞分化，5）人疱疹病毒（Human herpes virus，HHV）-8在几种卡波西肉瘤中呈阳性，瘤周B淋巴细胞也呈阳性。6）宫颈癌中HPV原位杂交阳性率高，（7）免疫组化和原位杂交显示绝大多数儿童霍奇金病的EB病毒阳性。

We performed an epidemiological, histological and virological study of malignant tumors in the western part of Kenya, East Africa. Preliminary results are as follows ; 1)AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, which shows disseminated cutaneous papules on the trunk, is increasing in number, 2)The incidence of cervical cancer, which suspected to be related with human papilloma virus(HPV), is increasing among the malignant tumors and a mean age of the patients is becoming younger in AIDS prevalent areas, 3)Hemangioma-like Kaposi's sarcoma is increasing in number histologically, 4)Ultrastructurally we found three types of Kaposi's sarcoma cells, which are differentiating to endothelial cell, pericytes and smooth muscle cells respectively, 5)Human herpes virus(HHV)-8 are found positive among several kaposi's sarcomas and also B lymphocytes around tumors, 6)Almost of cervcal cancers show HPV positive by in situ hybridization, 7)Majority cases of pediatric Hodgkin's disease shows Epstein-Barr virus positive by immunohistochemical methods and in situ hybridization.
