Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone that plays an important role in many aspects of plant growth and development, including seed maturation and dormancy as well as adaptation to a variety of environmental stress. Thus an understanding of the regulation mechanisms of endogenous ABA levels is crucial for elucidation of ABA action in plant growth and physiological responses. Recent studies based on the cloning of genes using ABA-deficient mutants have reveals details of the main ABA biosynthetic pathway, and the presence of gene families and their respective organ-specific expressions. Thus, now we are standing at the point to be able to view the precise mechanism of the regulation of ABA biosynthesis in each ABA-related phenomenon. In this study, in vivo and in vivo function of Arabidopsis aldehyde oxidase 3 (AAO3) gene in relation to ABA biosynthesis, and with the results complex regulation of ABA biosynthesis has been discussed. We have also tried to investigate the localization of AAO3 protein, using AAO3 promoter: AAO3-GTP fusion.
