Research of School Digital Library System for Visually Impaired

This research aimed to construct a digital library in the school for the blind or national homes for the blind, and to improve visually handicapped person's learning environment and reading environment.Additionally, the cooperation of the library between schools for the blind or national homes for the blind and use etc. of digital books were examined.Survey : The current state of the school library was investigated about the librarian's arrangement and digital books, the library management system etc.Digital Recording Book : The existence such as portable digital MP3 players is paid to attention in the most advanced by computerization a digital recording books besides the new digital recording books standard that is called DAISY.Digital braille books : The tendency to a digital braille books read on the braille display of a portable type was remarkable. However, the dependency of braille is lowering.Digital Book : As for digital books, sometime reading by the cellular phone was seen. However, it turned out that digital books were read with the notebook computer in many cases.Communication experiment for cooperation of wide area network : In the school for the blind, it was not possible to transmit though digital book data was able to be received. It was thought that the cause was in the setting of the firewall.Field experiment : The digital library system of the appliance server was not able to be operated in the school for the blind, and the simple type system was requested.From the result, the demand of the digital library system was very large. However, it was suggested that there were a lot of problems for system construction and operation, and the system that was able to use it simply be requested.
