In 2003 fiscal year, a standard-free method for untreated nail samples was established, and it has been applied to studies on human exposure to mercury and arsenic in various countries such as Philippines and Mongolia. Further, we developed a method of quantitative analysis of fluorine making use of the "Three-detector measuring system" which we established two years ago. This method allows us to discuss correlation between fluorine and other toxic elements such as arsenic and manganese. This method has been applied to the samples taken from Chinese people living in contaminated areas, and the correlation among fluorine, manganese and arsenic were confirmed. This method has been further applied to plants, sea foods, fungi, and tap waters, and becomes a powerful method in the fields of environmental science and sitology etc.In 2004 fiscal year, a new external multi-channel analyzer was purchased and the system for effective analyses of spectrum data from three detectors was established. It has been applied to more than 2000 hairs, urines and nails taken from people living in contaminated areas in China, Monogolia and Kazakhstan etc. Furthermore, Standard-free methods for spinal fluid, saliva, sweat, tear and snivel have been developed and it made it possible to quantitatively analyze extremely small amount of these samples. We are planning to apply these methods to studies on human exposure to toxic elements in many countries in Asia.
