本年度は、まず丹後地域について、（1ａ）寺誌や寺院明細帳の検討、（1ｂ）古代中世の仏教関係史料の検討、（2ａ）地域に残る仏像などの伝来資料の検討、（2ｂ）建造物や石造物などの検討、（3）地名にもとづく寺院跡の推定により、古代に遡る可能性をもつ寺院跡の候補を抽出する作業をおこない、リストを作成した。そして、丹後地域の中でももっとも典型であると考えられる、寺領廃寺、上山寺、縁城寺などを研究チーム全体で巡見し、それぞれの調査をおこなうとともに、意見交換をおこなった。現地調査にあたっては、仏堂跡や塔跡の推定のほか、泉や水場、石塔や墓地、あるいは洞などの行場の存在についても記録し、寺院の構成を把握するようにした。播磨地域についても、自治体史による抽出をおこなったうえで、丹後地域で実施したのと同様の検討を加え、古代に遡る可能性をもつ寺院跡の候補を抽出した。とくに、神崎郡と多可郡を中心に悉皆的に検討をおこない、山寺のリストの作成をおこなった。当該地域では赤色立体図が兵庫県によって公表されており、それも検討に加えている。そして、実地調査の対象として多可郡域の寺院を取り上げ、多可町の円満寺跡、神光寺跡について踏査をおこない、遺跡の評価をおこなった。後者については、神光寺を母体として成立した岩座神地区について集中的な調査をおこなっている。丹後と播磨のほかの畿内周辺域についても、調査研究の準備をとして、自治体史を中心に寺院関係の記事を収集し、必要に応じて、実地を訪れて調査候補をあらかじめ探索し、また現地の文化財担当者にヒアリングをおこなった。このほか、中国と韓国の山寺についても、巡見に備えて、基礎的な資料収集を進めた。
