急速なグローバル化に伴い、わが国で教育をうける外国人児童生徒の数も急増している。公立学校における日本語指導が必要な児童生徒数は約44,000人、10年前に比べ1.7倍に増加している。さらに国籍や日本語能力にかかわらず、外国にルーツのある児童生徒の地域や母語も多様化している（文部科学省, 2019）。教室に外国にルーツをもつ児童生徒が増加するにつれ、日本人児童生徒にとっても、当たり前だった、同じ民族や言語的背景の他者のみを対象にした対人関係やコミュニケーションのあり方、とらえ方を見直す必要が生じる。これまで、異文化コミュニケーションにおける他者受容についての研究には多くの蓄積があるが、ほとんどは欧米や中東などの文脈であり（ex. Schwarzenthal et al., 2017）、日本とは大きく異なる。またわが国の寛容性についての発達研究（ex. 長谷川, 2014）あるいは大学生の葛藤と寛容性（ex. 高田・大渕, 2009）等の研究では、多文化を含む実際の教室での児童の寛容性に焦点を当てたものはみられない。そこで本研究では、「自分とは異なる他者を受容する」ことへの自信を、「多文化包摂コンピテンス」として提起する。そのような独自の尺度化を行った上で、その発達的特徴と共感性など関連概念との関係について検討する。あわせて、適応状態を多面的に測定するQOL尺度を使用して，児童期における「自分とは異なる他者」の受け止め方（認知，感情）とQOLの関連を検討する。
