ギリシアの書簡文学には、書簡の形式を用いた哲学・倫理学あるいは自伝といった真の著作がある一方で、(1)書簡の形をとった全くの偽文書、(2)漁師や農夫、遊女や市井の人、といった特定の社会階層の人々による手紙の体裁を採った創作文学、(3)伝説や先行文学の内容を書簡体で再話する翻案文学、等に分類することができる。中務は今年度も引き続き(2)を中心に検討したが、とりわけアルキプロン『遊女の手紙』における喜劇詩人メナンドロスの取り扱いについて考察した。2番「グリュケラよりバッキスへ」、18番「メナンドロスよりグリュケラへ」、19番「グリュケラよりメナンドロスへ」等から、グリュケラの歴史性を検討し、またアルキプロンが書簡文学を作るに際してどれほど喜劇作品を利用しているかを考察した。高橋は本年度が本課題の最終年度にあたることから、これまでの検討結果を整理しつつ、中心的に取り組むテキストへの解釈を深めた。整理の面では、キケローが残した膨大な量の書簡から精選して一書を編み、合わせて概要を解説に記した(裏面[図書]の項参照)一方、セネカ「道徳書簡集』に見られる古典伝統の継承についての書簡形式と密接に関連した自覚的表現に着眼を得た論考(裏面[雑誌論文]中の英文論文)を公表した。また、オウィディウス『名高き女たちの手紙(ヘーローイデス)』について、近年さかんなジェンダー論などの新しい視点からの解釈にテキストからやや遊離した傾向が見られることに注意しながら、詩人独自の機知が発揮された表現を観察したが、その論考は本課題成果報告書に発表の予定である。他方、本年度はとくにオウィディウス『悲しみの歌』、『黒海からの手紙』を取り組みの中心に据え、ホラーティウス『書簡詩』の第一巻との関連に考究した。
