We developed an image analysis system for the detection of specific cancer protein spots in 2-DE gels. The system can analyze the time courses of silver stained gel images during developing processes, and distinguish the specific protein spots of cancer tissues from ones of non-cancer tissues. We also developed an camera system which include the shaking system for performing the developing operation and stop the shaking intermittently for taking picture of the gel images. The system has an advantage of the free hand operation for taking pictures, and we need not transfer the gel from developing instrument to a camera system. The combination of the image analysis and camera system can separate the overlapping spots, because we can get the information of original separated spots from the former images, and we can detect very faint spots because the system provide the later phase images which show the spots of only a few amount of protein relatively clear. These results were presented in 2004 Annual Meeting of the American Electrophoresis Society.
