Since 2018, the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin has provided a publication fund to financially support authors with open access publishing. The fund, which is administered by the Medical Library, was established with funding from the DFG and significantly reinforced each year with Charité funding. In the next phase of the project, procedures will be developed to optimize recording of both publication output and publication costs, and to this end, the areas of information provision and of publication support will be more closely linked in their processes. The goal is to centralize the management of funds across the institution. A sustainable financial model that favors open science will thereby be designed and established.Low-threshold services for open access publishing will contribute to improved scientific communication; authors’ understanding of the functioning and costs of publishing will be furthered.
