(1)昨年から開発を始めたCA(セルラ・オートマタ)の研究を進め、内外の経済学、数学、計算機科学などの学会や研究会で報告した。具体的には、各消費者が隣人の購買行動を見て次回の購買行動を決めるとき商品の購買者の分布がどのように変化するか様々な想定で計算機実験を行った。各人の近傍(各人の観察する隣人の集合)が大きくなるにつれ、購買者数の動学が各人が市場全体を観察するという集計模型における動学に近づくのは当然であり、じっさい我々の実験でも各人の近傍が全体の約5パーセント以上のときには少なくとも長期的にはそうなることが確認されたが、近傍がもっと小さいときには集計模型では予想できない複雑な動学がしばしば観察された。現在この数理を研究中であるが、これが進めば、理論的にも実証的にも一定の成果をあげている集計模型の有効性と限界を明らかにするとともに、我々の市場経済における人と人工物の共進化の研究をその全面否定ではなく有意義な拡張として位置づけることができよう。(2)リサイクルに関する実証的研究(ヨーロッパにおける自動車、日本のレンズ付きフィルム、米国におけるペットボトルなど)を進めつつある。現在これらのまとめと、これに基づくシステム・ダイナミクス・モデルを開発中である。これはリサイクルや製品の長寿命化にともなう産業構造の変化(産業の重点が生産からリサイクルとメインテナンスへ移動することによる雇用や景気循環の変化)を表現することを目標とする集計モデルであり、最終的には(1)のCAとの結合を考えている。
