昨年度までの本グループの研究において,古地図の画像を中心とするデータベース化にあたっては, (1)古地図の撮影に関する問題,(2)検索のためのテキストデータの作成と入力の効率化に関する問題,(3)解像度とファイル容量との関係,が主要な問題であることが明らかになった。本年度の研究では,これらの諸問題の解決のための方向を探るとともに,これまでほどんど客観的に行われることのなかった古地図の地図性,つまり地図としての歪みについて,単純にレイヤーを作成して比べるだけではなく,データ化した景観要素を活用して現在の位置と絵図における位置との関係をGISソフトのArc/View3を使用して検討を行った。その結果,事例として取り上げた『一村限明細絵図』は村の形状を切り抜いた絵図で,実測に基づくものであり,相当正確であろうと予想されたにもかかわらず,かなり大きな歪みを持っていることが明らかとなった。このような歪みの測定により近世の測量技術を評価することも将来的には考えられよう。(3)の問題については当面は概観用と熟覧用に画像を分けることが適当であろうとの結論に達した。また,本年度は研究者レヴェルでの限定的な公開を前提に,試行的に作成したデータベースをある程度量的に充実させることを目指して,ソフト面での問題点を中心に検討を行った。その結果とくに,景観要素や絵図の画像データベース作成に当たっては,絵図には位置情報が含まれているが,この絵図を地図たらしめていることから派生してくる絵図における地名表記や景観描写と人権問題との関連については看過できない問題であり,今後十分慎重に検討しなければならない大きな課題であることが明らかとなった。
