1、POSIX Localeモデルによる地域化では、複数の文字群と言語の混在表記を必要とする蒙古系文字群のテキスト処理が不可能である。伝統的な蒙古文字は縦書きで左から右に改行するが、蒙古系文字群の中には右から左に記述する横書き文字群や、縦書きで右から左に改行する文字群が含まれ、これらをすべて矛盾なく混在表記、編集することが可能でなければならない。また、これらの文字群は、表記図形と文字とが1対1に対応しない。これらの特徴を持つ蒙古系文字群を分析して文字と図形の対応を求め、国際化として統一的に処理可能なシステムを開発し、X Window SystemとPOSIXに組み込んだ。2、モンゴル文字資料のうち、戦前日本人が作ったモンゴル文字による文法書や教科書類が重要な位置を占めるが、これらは中国に残されたものも調査して始めてその全貌に迫り得る。その点で『旧満州東北地方文献連合目録(第二輯)』(葦書房)等の文献目録が役立つが、今年度は1961年作成の『蒙古史研究文献目録(日文部分)』を知った。これは言語関係文献類も登録しており、上記のモンゴル文字資料についての理解を深めることができた。
