研究テーマは、社会の<倫理的ネットワーク>の構築である。平成18年度はその基礎づけとして、感情論的視点から「規範意識」の生成を研究し、19年度には「倫理」の基盤として「常識」の成り立ちと構造を研究した。そのさい、時代と世代の視点を導入し、死生観と昭和思想の研究を通じて、常識において<変わるもの>と<変わらないもの>とを浮き上がらせた。そして最終の20年度には常識の「人類的基盤」の研究に着手した。以上の成果をふまえて、<倫理ネットワーク>の理論の構築のための土台、つまり、人類的条件=形成力/原形=規準/基本制度/特定の全体社会からなる歴史的社会の論理構造、ならびに、<もの>の形而上学・倫理学の根本、を固めることができた。さらにまた、規範の運用を相互的に牽制し合う<倫理的ネットワーク>だけでなく、<コンセンサス>形成の大筋も明瞭になることによって、この両者を(現場での<コンセント>をも含めて)包括するような倫理学の公共的地平、いわば「公共倫理学」の構想が新たに浮かび上がってきた。目下、「コモンセンスからコンセンサスへ」という方向で、引き続き「公共倫理学」の基礎づけに取り組んでいる。
