项目摘要

1.　古代日本語における助動詞ベシについて、その多義的なあり方を統一的に捉える意味規定として「必然性・不可能性」という理解が有効であることを明らかにした。いわゆる反実仮想のマシが複数の可能性の存在を前提とするという意味で「可能性・偶然性」という意味領域を担うとすれば、「必然性・不可能性」を担うベシは、意味の上でマシと対立する関係にあることを指摘した（拙稿「『応久』の解釈―助動詞ベシの意味をめぐって―」『萬葉』235）。さらに、助動詞ベシの多義性の原理について、現代語ハズダの意味分化のありかたとパラレルな形で説明可能であることを明らかにした（拙稿「ベシの多義性の原理について―現代語ハズダとの対照から―」『花園大学日本文学論究』15）。2.　古代日本語における助動詞ムについて、その意味が意志と推量にまたがることの原理を、意志から推量への意味派生という仮説によって説明し、同時にムとマシが重なりをもつことの理由を明らかにした。また、ムのク語法形マクの分析を通じて、動詞的な形態を有する助動詞ムと、形容詞的な形態を有する助動詞マシ・ベシでは、叙法的な質に異なりがあることを示した（拙稿「助動詞ムの意味―意志から推量へ」『国語国文』92・2）。3.　推量の助動詞の意味的体系性を考えるに際して、そもそも「推量」という文法概念が国語学史上でいかなるものとして自覚されてきたのかを問題とし、中古から近世に至るまでの歌論・テニヲハ論を主な対象として「推量」の認識の歴史を明らかにした（拙稿「『推量』認識の史的展開」『国語語彙史の研究　四十二』）。4.　1.と2.の全過程で、萬葉集や源氏物語をはじめとする文学作品の用例について精緻な考証・注釈を行い、いくつかの用例については助動詞研究を踏まえて新たな解釈を提示しうることを明らかにした（拙稿「但馬皇女『標結へ我が背』考」『国文学』107）。
