昨年度の補完的な調査として、島の経済の実体把握,国有林伐採と土壌崩落,土石流との関係,枯スギの年代推定法の関発,林冠欠所による更新の周期推定,カラ類の生態的地位空位に対する対処のし方,ヤクザルの猿害防止法の確立に関する野外実験,ヤクシカの食性と分布からの個体群推定などの調査研究を行なった。これまで、一つの人間を含めた生態系、又は生物圏保護区で、これ程多くの分解の研究者が関与した例はなく、その成果は多岐に亘るため、本研究のまとめとして、検討会を開催し、成果のなかから、他の生物圏保護区にも適用できる共通の問題点を、提言としてまとめ上げた。提言を列記すると次のようになる。(1)生物圏保護区の核心部分は緩衡部分で囲まれる必要がある。緩衝部の幅は50m程度以上で、人工林であってもよい。(2)保護の単位は屋根を挟む両側の集水域を1単位とし、対象に応じて拡げる。(3)大型、中型動物の保護のためには個体群サイズまたは密度を把握する必要がある。これを知った上で数を合理的にコントロールするのが望ましい。(4)種指定の保護は緊急な場合に限り、常に生息域を併せて指定することが望ましい。(5)有害鳥獣駆除のあり方は生態学的な立場から考慮しなければならない。また、駆除された動物の実態把握が不完全で、責任の所在が瞹味である。(6)生物圏保護区はMAB計画により、国際的な連帯の下に保護、活用されるもので、社会教育、国際的な研究活動の場となるように配慮が望ましい。(7)生物圏保護区や国立、県立公園などの保護地の面積が広がれば広がる程、それを域内に持つ自治体は開発への対応が制限される。保護が国民や人類の生存をかけたものであればあるほど、国は自治体に対して何らかの援助をしなければ、国民の名の下での保護とは名ばかりになってしまう畏れがある。

(7)The area of biosphere reserves, national parks and provincial parks is subject to restrictions on the development of biosphere reserves. The protection of the people and the survival of mankind are the only way to help the country and the people.
