项目摘要

本研究の学術的な問いは、屋久島において狩猟活動がもつ社会的、経済的、文化的意義を歴史的に明らかにし、地域社会において狩猟コミュニティの再編成と狩猟文化の継承を担う存在として猟友会が果たす役割を提示するというものである。目的は以下の4点である。①屋久島の狩猟史を古文書および猟師の聞き取りから明らかにする。②2010年から猟友会で始まった有害鳥獣捕獲の活動実態を明らかにする。③猟友会の若い世代が開始したジビエ販売や革製品の開発、レストランの運営、屋久島犬の保存などについて活動実態を明らかにする。④屋久島における狩猟文化の変遷のなかに現代的な展開を位置づけ、狩猟の多義性を歴史的観点から検討し、猟友会が狩猟文化の継承に果たす役割を検討する。今年度は、①、②、③について情報収集を行った。①は種子島において、江戸時代に作成された「種子島家譜」から、屋久島の狩猟儀礼に影響を与えた可能性がある初鹿祝いの記述を見つけた。②については、有害鳥獣捕獲がコロナ禍において収入の減少した猟師にとって重要な生計手段となっていることや屋久島にある二つの猟友会のあいだで猟区のすみわけが歴史的に行われていること、狩猟の意義が有害鳥獣捕獲によってリクリエーションから収入確保へと変わってきていることなどがわかった。③については、ジビエを消費する主体が観光客であり島内での消費がほとんど行われていないことと、このような状況を変えるためにジビエをふるまうイベントが開催されるようになっていることなど、新たな動きについての情報を収集した。
