The aim of this project is to investigate Japanese sentence structures from the perspective of discourse functions and to consider the methodology of contrastive analysis of Japanese with other languages on the basis of discourse functions. As the relations of sentence structures and discourse functions are not simple one-to-one correlations, we need to study the relations empirically in actual text using various methods such as quantitative analysis, experiments, and analysis using questionnairesThe results of this project are :1. Data base of the written discourse for the cleft and the existential sentences.2. Data base of the spoken discourse for the cleft and the existential sentences.3. Results of the text completion tests.4. Results of the summary and title tests.5. The results of both 4 and 5 are to be published in due course.6. Published the analysis on Japanese cleft sentences.7. Presented the above paper at the Linguistic Circle of Ljubljuana University and at the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Studies Association of Australia.8. Data base for the referent books on the typological studies of word order.9. Published the review of the typological studies on word order.

本项目的目的是从语篇功能的角度研究日语句子结构，并考虑在语篇功能的基础上对日语与其他语言进行对比分析的方法。由于句子结构和语篇功能之间的关系不是简单的一一对应关系，我们需要在实际语篇中采用定量分析、实验和问卷分析等多种方法对这种关系进行实证研究。本课题的研究结果是：1.基于存在句和分裂句的书面语篇数据库。为分裂句和存现句建立口语语篇语料库。文本补全测试结果。总结和职称测试结果。4和5的结果将在适当的时候公布。发表了对日语分裂句的分析。在卢布尔华纳大学语言学界和澳大利亚日语研究协会年会上发表了上述论文。语序类型学研究参考书的数据库。发表了语序类型学研究的综述。
