Persons who are diagnosed as having brain tumors might be exposed to severe stress. In the present study, we measure the QOL in the patients with brain tumors after they return to their own social living. Materials : 50 patients who admitted in our department because of the brain tumors were included in the study. All patients presented high Karnofsky performance score, so that they are expected to return their previous social living. Method : The self-answering tests were performed on admission (Pre), on discharge (Post 1), and on more than 3 months after the discharge (Post 2). The tests were the followings. An original questionnaire asking the informed consent, Cornell Medical Index (CMI) which measured the self-consciousness of the healthiness, and Profile of mood state (POMS) which measured the patients'mood states including tension-anxiety (TA), depression (D), anger-hostility (AH), vigor (V), fatigue (F), and confusion (C), and the questionnaire asking the job status. Results : The data showed that the patients feel the satisfactory consent to the treatment. CMI showed aborderline of neurosis in 15% patients. Only TA of POMS subscale improved significantly in Post 2, however, other subscales unchanged. All of the subscales of POMS showed less disturbed on discharge compared with those on admission, however, they returned to the prelevel after they returning the social living. The results shows that patients with brain tumors exposed severe stress even after the completion of the treatment.
