外国人特別研究員の研究では、インド西ガーツ地方（ケララ州ワヤナッド）をケースとして、持続可能な土地利用・自然資源の利用につながる農業生物多様性を維持するエコツーリズムについて研究する。本研究では、ケララ州で得られる知見を、ケララ州と同様に自然資源の持続可能な利用と生計手段の向上を両立させる課題の解決策のひとつにエコツーリズムを位置づけているインド北東部ナガランド州ズニボト郡での知見で補完・拡充し、現場での具体的な活動に発展させることを目指す。その初年度として、研究代表者と外国人特別研究員が両対象地を訪問して、それぞれのランドスケープおよびステークホルダーについて共通認識を得て、共同研究の基礎を築いた。ナガランド州の訪問では、①スカイ村にて農家代表と面談して今後の課題について聞き取り、②ナガランド州森林局の長官（PCCF-HOFF）に研究活動の紹介、③JICA円借款の森林管理プロジェクトの事務所を訪れ、GISラボで共同研究の可能性の議論、を行った。ケララ州の訪問では、①エコツーリズムプログラムの視察、②M S Swaminathan Research Foundationにて農業生物多様性について議論、③地元行政の長と、体験型観光についての議論、を行った。SATOYAMAイニシアティブの推進について事務局（国連大学）と協議を進め、Satoyama Initiative Thematic ReviewおよびSATOYAMAイニシアティブ国際パートナーシップ総会の開催で連携することを合意した。

Special Fellow for Foreigners Research on the maintenance of biodiversity in agriculture, sustainable land use and natural resource utilization This study aims to provide information on the development of knowledge and specific activities on the ground in the eastern part of the country, and to provide guidance on how to solve the problem of sustainable utilization of natural resources and sustainable development of livelihood means. In the early years, research representatives and special researchers from foreign countries visited and shared common knowledge and foundation for joint research. Visit to the State of Georgia,(1) Interview with representatives of farmers in villages,(2) Introduction to research activities by the Chief of the State Forest Bureau (PCCF-HOFF),(3) Visit to the Forest Management Office of JICA, Discussion on the possibility of joint research by GIS, and (4) Implementation. Visit to the state,(1) inspection of agricultural biodiversity,(2) discussion of agricultural biodiversity by MS Swaminathan Research Foundation,(3) discussion of geographical administration, and (4) discussion of body type light.
