本研究は沖縄の土帝君と台湾の土地公の比較研究を目的とし、民俗誌的記述を試みるものである。土帝君は琉球国時代に中国からもたらされた神であり、土地神としての性質をもつ。その性質上、信仰の様相は多様であり、数も膨大であることが研究上の困難でもある。東南アジアの華人及び華僑グループによる土地公信仰の中国語論文は存在するものの、華人でない沖縄の人々が祀る土帝君信仰の研究はなされておらず、国際的な研究史という点でも意義がある。本年度は研究対象である土地神、土帝君の祭祀日を中心的に複数地域で聞き取り調査、祭祀の参与観察を行った。具体的には北中城村、読谷村、南城市、那覇市が挙げられる。本年度は沖縄の土帝君の多様性とその背景に注目したことから、年間を通して複数地域での調査を行った。地域によって自治会や郷友会、親族集団と祭祀組織が異なり、土地神に求められる役割もまた変化している。また調査を通し土帝君が霊石「ビジュル」と習合している事例が複数存在していることが分かった。そのため、霊石であるビジュルについての調査にも着手した。2023年2月、3月には台湾に渡航し、土帝君のルーツとなる土地公の調査を台南市および桃園市で行った。台湾の土地公祭祀は祭祀日こそ一致し、供物には類似性がみられるものの、祭祀組織や奉納される芸能等は大きく異なる。台湾の神観念を理解することで、沖縄において何がどのように受容されたのかを知ることができると考える。同時に台湾の土地公の多様性にも注意した調査を行った。沖縄で土地神信仰と霊石信仰の習合が見られたように、台湾の土地公にも石や樹木といったアニミズムとの関係を伺わせる事例が複数存在する。祭祀の参与観察をはじめとする現地調査と並行し、廟が独自に発行している冊子を中心とした文献調査も行った。
