Multi-Media Database System for ETHNOLOGY STUDY

The aim of this project is to develop a friendly computer system for multi-media database in the field of cultural anthropology studies. We have achieved following developments:1)Conversational information retrieval system. This is a man-machine interface which is very easy for the reseacher, who has no knowledge of computer system, to use multi-media database. This database includes bibliographc data, artifacts image, book page image, slide image, and sound, etc.2)Thesaurus system. We translated the OCM and OWC code of HRAF(Human Relations Area Files) and made it usable as a keyword extender or flexible word matcher.3)Application softwares for humanity studies. We have developped two softwares. One is a mapping program of cultural materials on the area maps. The second is a drawing system of family relation tree.4)Integrated workstation. Using personal computers and praphic display, we have integrated above mentioned functions into a workstation.
