高学歴化した現代社会において学校文化がどのような構造的特質を持ち、どのような機能を果しているかについて、次のような調査と考察を行った。(1)「生徒文化」「学校文化」に関して、過去20年間に日本で行われた実証的研究の成果(論文や調査報告書)を一定の形式に従って整理・検討した。とくに調査デザイン,調査対象,分析手法,考察の視点,報告されている知見などを研究ごとに整理し、比較検討してきた。作業は現在も進行中であるが、現時点までで明らかになったことは、膨大な調査研究が行われてきたにもかかわらず、分析・考察・知見の体系化などが不十分であるため諸研究が理論的発展に必ずしもつながっていないことである。それだけに現在我々が進めている研究は価値があり、また、その完了が待望されているのだと考えられるのである。(2)「中学生の生活と意識に関する調査」と題する質問紙調査を東京都区内の公立中学校18校、私立中学校2校の2年生約2500人を対象に行った。調査内容は、中学生の家庭での生活習慣や親との関係,学校生活への関わり方,規範意識,仲間関係,塾,ファミコン,テレビ視聴など多肢にわたるが、そのデータを解析することにより、中学生の生活の様式・文化的構えを考察できると考えている。また、各対象校の訪問・観察調査を行い、さらに、2年生担任の教師を対象に「中学校における学級運営に関する調査」をも併わせて行っている。いずれも、目下、集計作業を進めているところであり、分析し報告書としてまとめる作業は昭和62年度に残された課題である。今後の課題:(1)(2)のどちらの作業も目下進行中であり、完成は62年度にもち越された。62年度中に成果を公刊する予定である。

The survey was conducted by visiting and inspecting each school, and the survey was conducted by a teacher who served as a 2-year student.
