One of the challenges facing Japanese multinationals is internationalization within their parent companies. This is the subject of the present research.Main findings gained through the research are as follows:At major Japanese multinationals, roughly a half of the top management has had foreign working experiences and can communicate in English.Corporate staff departments such as personnel, finance and planning are gradually changing toward global orientation. Domestic and foreign tasks are merging into global ones.Plants and R&D facilities are internationalizing. But, sales departments are largely domestic oriented.Japanese multinationals have begun recruiting foreigners. They are found in R&D organizations, corporate staff departments and international divisions. Their presence promotes internationalization within parent companies.

日本跨国公司面临的挑战之一是母公司内部的国际化。这是本研究的主题。通过研究得到的主要发现如下：在日本大型跨国公司中，大约一半的高层管理人员有国外工作经历，可以用英语交流。企业人事、财务、计划等部门逐渐向全球化方向转变。国内和国外的任务正在融合为全球任务。工厂和研发设施正在国际化。但是，销售部门主要面向国内市场。日本跨国公司已经开始招聘外国人。他们分布在研发机构、企业员工部门和国际部门。他们的存在促进了母公司的国际化。
