(1)オッカムの認識理論に関しては, まず感覚と知性との関係, および人間的認識の生成ないし展開における両者の役割をあきらかにすることを研究目標とした. 13・14世紀において感覚的認識の生成を説明するために広く援用されたスペキエス理論(species sensibilis可感的形象)をオッカムが斥けた理由をあきらかにするため, ロバート・グローステスト, ロージャー・ベイコンなどにおけるスペキエス理論を原典について考察した. その結果, スペキエス理論は当時, 物理的因果作用の一般理論にまでたかめられる傾向があったことをつきとめたが, すでにJ.ドゥンス・スコートウスにおいてこのような物理的(自然学的)因果作用の理論によっては認識の生成は解明できないことが洞察されており, オッカムも基本的にスコートウスのスペキエス否定の立場を継承しつつ, それを更に徹底せしめているとの見通しをえた. しかし, オッカム自身が認識の生成を説明するために導入している因果性の概念については, それをいかに理解すべきかは今後の課題として残っている.(2)感覚的認識と知性的認識との関係については, オッカムにおいては感覚的認識から出発しつつ, いかにして知性的認識が形成されるかという問題, すなわち知性認識の可能性もしくは成立根拠の問題は問題として提起されていないことが注目される. このため, たとえばトマス・アクィナスにおいて見出されるような抽象理論はオッカムにおいては不在であり, いわゆる能動知性による抽象は明確に斥けられている. 認識理論における中世から近世への大きなパラダイム変換は, おそらくトマスとオッカムの間に起っているのではないかと想定される.(3)学問論においてはトマスにおける中心概念である形相的対象(objectum formale)の概念はオッカムにおいて完全に排除されており, ここにもパラダイム変換が推定される.

The abstract theory is not there, but the active knowledge is abstract and explicit. The theory of cognition is a theory of cognition. (3)The concept of objectum formale is completely excluded from the theory of knowledge.
