8研究班からなる本小領域の初年度において, 大規模研究の進行展開について, 以下の措置をとったのである.1.各班の目的・方法を表すキイワードおよびその解説の作成キイワード解説を読むと, 各班が構想する研究展開のシナリオと, その核心をなす基礎概念をうかがうことが出来る.2.各班の研究目標を上のキイワードを使い, 1〜2行で端的に表現する.3.特定対象都市の設定小領域の各研究班に共通の土俵をつくり, 研究過程から相互に情報が切り結びあうことと, 問題解決型の研究として, 成果が現実の環境計画に有効性を持ちうるように, 予め以下の諸条件を満たすような特定対象都市を定めることとした. (1)環境問題が都市政策の重要課題である. (2)各班が必要とし, 提供を期待する情報が十分整備されている. (3)N3領域の目的を理解する優秀なスタッフがおり, 市の支援体制が得られる. (4)各班の調査, 実験の目的, 内容, 時期, 対象地域の広さ, 等に適合する.結果的に川崎市を先ず設定し, 今年度数回にわたって川崎市において調査と研究会を実施した.4.データベースの整備昭和62年度においては, N3領域全般の研究支援ツールとなる情報システム, データベース整備のためのハードウェアとして, エンジニアリングワークステーションを導入し, 今後のシテスム構築のための所要の検討を行った.5.研究計画支援のためのエキスパート型モデル同定システムの開発基礎班の課題『都市圏の環境特性把握と環境計画立案のための方法論の体系化』に対する計算機支援環境を整備することを目標とし, 基礎班がエキスパートとして参加して作業を進めている.
