昭和60〜62年度の3年間にわたり、特定研究「有機化学資源の再評価と高度利用を目指す基礎的研究」を実施した。この研究プロジェクトの成果をとりまとめ、公表することが今年度研究費補助金による事業内容である。公表手段としては、研究成果報告書の刊行と、公開シンポジウムの開催の2つの方法をとった。(1)研究成果報告書の刊行:上記特定研究は、有限な有機化学資源をどうすれば最も有効に利用できるか、また現代社会が大量に消費している多種多様な有機化学製品の資源を將来どこに求めるかと言う視点から発足した。このような大量消費に応じ得る有機化学資源としては、化石系資源と、再生可能な植物系資源の両方がある。從ってこの特定研究に參加した研究者は77名の多数にのぼり、研究対象もこの両方にわたり極めて広い。そのため、研究分野ごとに7つの研究班に分割し、研究推進の効率化をはかった。研究成果報告書は、公募研究者を含めた全研究班員から提出させた報告書を編集し、英文および邦文による成果報告書を別々の單行本として、昨年10月に刊行した。邦文成果報告書は本文308ページ、事項および著者名索引を付した。英文成果報告書は、各研究班員から提出された報告書を専門外人研究者によって英文校閲を行ったのち、前記7研究班の順に排列して刊行した。本文360ページ、事項索引および全研究者の分担研究課題一覧を付した。(2)公開シンポジウムの開催:研究成果のうち、一般社会の関心が高い代表的研究を7つの研究班から1〜2件づつ、計10件選び、昨年11月1日、2日に東京(湯島ガーデンパレス)において開催した。大学所属の研究者のほか、企業およびその研究所から多数の參加者があり、社会的意義の高さが反映された。
