1.6つの農村地域における農村人口様式の戦後の変貌過程の解明、および、将来におけるその変化を予測するための基礎資料として、昭和30年代から現在に至る間の地域人口、人口動態、農家戸数、農業人口、および農業経営に関する統計資料や、職場・部落での保管資料の転写・収集を、それぞれの地域の予備調査の段階で行なった。2.上記の予備調査にもとづき、新潟県東頚域郡松之山町水梨、中尾の両部落(計80戸)、酒田市中平田地区の熊野田、本川の両部落(計45戸)、群馬県佐波部東村西小保方部落(43戸)、山梨県南巨摩郡早川町草塩、京ケ島の両部落(60戸)につき、昭和30年から現在までの間の世帯員の移動(出生・死亡・転出・転入)、現住世帯員の就業状況、および、農業経営や部落生活の現状と将来に関する予測などに関し、意向調査をもふくめた面接調査を、昭和63年8月から11月の間に、学生補助査を調査員として実施した。さらに、2月および3月はじめにそれらの補足調査を行った。3.上記面接調査と竝行して、松之山町、早川町および山形県最上郡眞室町については、昭和35年以降の部落別戸数・人口や農家離村・留村廃農戸数を農業センサス資料にもとづき把握し、戸数減のいちじるしい部落をえらんで、部落長などから離廃農に至る個別事情や転出先、離廃農後の仕事や生活状況に関する聞き取り調査を実施した。またこれと対照する意味合いにおいて、戸数減少の比較的少ない東村や酒田市に関してキ同様の総計把握を行ない、比較資料とした。4.上記の諸調査の調査結果の整理術様の第一段階として、調査地域の統計資料の整理・製表、面接調査結果の点検・符号づけ・転写、離農世帯の聞き取り票の符号づけを学生補助員を雇用して実施し、基礎的作業をほぼ完了した。
