音韻知覚は読話情報が与えられると、視覚的な文脈効果を受けて著るしく変容する場合がある。たとえば、読話情報lgalを与えると、聴覚情報lbalの知覚は視聴覚情報が融合してlolalなどに変容する(McGurk効果)。本研究では、このような視聴覚情報の統合過程を調べるために、弁別実験を行なった。特に、融合的に判断される音声が聴覚的にどのように他の音韻と弁別されるのかについて詳しく調べた。具体的には、まずMcGurk効果の生じ方について調べるため、日本語の1音節lbal、lclal,lgalについて音声と映像のさまざまな組合せの同定実験を行なった。次に、上記の刺激のうちある程度反応にバラツキのあると認められた刺激対を中心にして弁別実験を行なった。2種類の実験から得られた主な結果は、以下の通りである。1.McGurk効果によってldalと判断された刺激は音声lbalと異なると知覚されたが、音声ldalとは70%弱で弁別されたにすぎなかった。2.McGurk効果の生じる刺激同士は、ほとんど同じ音声としてきかれた。3.これ以外の音声と映像の一致しない刺激同士の場合でも、同じ音声としてきかれた。4.どちらかがMcGurk効果の生じない刺激である場合には、音声が異なれば刺激の聴覚的違いはほぼ完全に弁別された。本研究の結果は、視覚情報の影響を受けて音韻判断は変化するが、一方音響的な特徴についての記憶もある程度保持されていることを示唆している。したがって、McGurk効果の問題についても、聴覚的・カテゴリ-的短期記憶の関与についてさらに検討する必要があると考えられる。今後は、音声刺激を自然音声ではなく、任意にパラメ-タを操作できる合成音声にして、視聴覚実験を行なうことを計画している。
