Search for CP Violation and Precision Measurements in Neutrino Oscillations at the T2K Experiment (Tokai to Kamioka)

After the first years of running yielding many improvements on the precision of the neutrino oscillation parameters, T2K aims to address in the coming years the following questions:- Is the 23-mixing maximal or does \theta_23 differ from 45°?- If \theta_23 differs from 45°, in which octant is it located?- Which mass hierarchy is realized in nature, i.e. is \Delta m^2_23 positive or negative?- Is \delta_CP different from zero and if so does its value give rise to measureable CP violation?T2K will contribute substantially to the answering of these exiting and fascinating questions by increasing the amount of data by a factor of ten in the coming years. To address especially the question of CP violation an alternate running in neutrino and anti-neutrino mode is planned. This will allow comparing the behavior of matter and anti-matter and might reveal differences between them directly.The T2K group of RWTH Aachen University wants to participate in this exciting research program and harvest the expected scientific results after the substantial investments which have been rendered possible through the support of the DFG. We would like to continue our contributions to the operation of the ND280 near detector and to the calibration of its data and to take part in their analysis with respect to the questions given above.
