Scientific Surveys on the International Collaborations in Development and Administration of the DNA Databank

The DNA Data Banks are international data banks for DNA sequence data which are composed of EMBL Data Library in Europe, GenBank in the USA, and DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ). We are in charge of DDBJ. It is thus inevitable to establish and revise the operating policy which is shared by the three data banks. To examine the policy to be executed properly among the three data banks and to revise it if necessary, the International Advisory Committee members meet once a year at one of the three data banks. This time it was held in Washington, D. C. for which GenBank was responsible. We attended the meeting to exchange opinions, suggestions, and comments on the policy between the advisors and us. The meeting was very fruitful for us, because we could tell them our data bank activities and obtain a lot of information about running DDBJ more efficiently.We could also establish more tight and friendly relationships to GenBank and EMBL Data Library people who attended the meeting. Consequently, we will be able to obtain software for data processing and management from the GenBank. We will use it to run DDBJ more satisfactorily.
