1.本研究の課題は、戦時体制期から戦後の1950年代に至る時期の日本農村社会の変貌過程を、農村の協同組合組織に焦点を合わせて明らかにすることにあったが、3年間の調査研究の結果、以下の点が明らかになった。2.東北地方・山形県庄内地方(鶴岡市周辺)では、戦時下から戦後直後にかけて展開した東亜連盟の史料(東田川群黒川村)と農業協同組合組織の変遷過程を知る史料を発掘することができた。両者の史料を組み合わせると、東亜連盟は農村部でかなり活発に活動し、とくに肥料欠乏のもとで酵素肥料という独自の肥料を通じて農民の支持を集めていたことがわかる。黒川村の東亜連盟は、太平洋戦争期から敗戦後の1946年頃まで、農業会にも大きな影響力をあたえていたが、農業協同組合の発足とともに役員から排除され、農協は東亜連盟との関係を断ってスタートした。以上のことは、同地方の戦時から戦後社会への転回を理解するうえで、戦時体制・右翼的社会運動と農業協同組合組織との関係を分析することがことのほか重要な意味をもっていることを示している。これに対し、養蚕地域に属する山梨県中巨摩群落合村は、戦前・戦後に農民運動が展開した地域として有名であり、戦前には農民組合の影響下にある組合製糸が、戦時期以降に本格的な農協組織に再編された。ここでは、協同組合組織を基盤にして農民が経済的実力をつけ、それを背景に農民運動が展開していた。以上3年間の調査の結果、戦前から戦後の農協組織の変遷は、戦後農村社会の形成に大きな影響をあたえていたことが実証的に確認できた。これらのなかで、山梨県中巨摩群落合村についての研究成果は、1994年2月に発刊した著作『近代日本と農村社会』に発表した。山形県庄内地方についての研究成果は、平成7年度の文部省科学研究費補助金(研究成果公開促進費)を申請し、出版する予定である。
