The first Workshop on "Environmental Monitoring from Space" supported by KOSEF and JSPS was held at KAIST during 15-18th of November, 1991. As the result of workshop, the EMSEA (Environmental Monitoring from Space of East Asia) project has been formed under the agreements of both parties for the promotion of well organized research activities in remote sensing fields by scientific communities of Korea and Japan.The third General Meeting was held at the Ramada Rennaisance Hotel, in Seoul, on December 16th, 1993, as the Second Workshop on "Environmental Monitoring from Space", in which 16 presentations were made from both sides ; Japan 8 and Korea 8. The workshop was very successful and had a lot of Korean participants. Before and after the workshop, discussions were made in systems, oceanography, meteorology, land and forest and water quality between research of both sides. And the direction of this cooperation work was summarized at the final general meeting.The "EMSEA Newsletter" should be published to keep participants of the first and second meetings informed of the latest development. Professors Choi and Takagi are serving as the executive editors, while Drs.Kim and Nakayama are in charge of editorial work. And two issues were published.
