1.平成6年5月26日・27日に、西尾市立図書館の岩瀬文庫を調査。参加者は山田慶兒、笠谷和比古、松田清、白幡洋三郎、三木亘ら11名。閲覧書目としては、高木春山『本草図説』・山本亡羊『格致類編』・西沢保古『本草品目』・木公安『信濃草木小誌』など約20点。2.平成7年2月21日・22日・23日に、長崎県長崎図書館・島原市立図書館松平文庫・平戸松浦史料博物館を調査。参加者は、山田慶兒、笠谷和比古、松田清、中野益男、真柳誠、杉本秀太郎ら9名。閲覧書目としては、『見帳』『西洋薬寄』『薬種寄』など(以上、長崎図書館)、『鳥獣図鑑』『多識図譜』『墨是可新話』など(島原図書館)、『ワインマン植物図譜』『エブリコ図』『松浦静山関係書簡』など(松浦史料博物館)。本年度は、これらの現地調査を通して、各地に伝来の本草書、博物書、各種の図譜などを実見し、その結果、それら本草関係諸資料の伝播経路、図譜類の書写の系統を跡づけることができ、またそれら相互間での内容上の発展、各地方独自の展開の具体的な様相を把握することができた。一例を挙げるならば、昨年度の調査において研究対象とした、四国高松の松平公益会所蔵『博物図』が本草図譜の書写系統の原型的な位置を占めていること、そしてそれが、松浦静山などの大名たちの交際を通して、あるいは市井の本草家たちの会合の場を媒介として全国に広まり、各地方における本草や博物への関心を喚起するとともに、地方では、地方で発掘された博物的情報が中央に回帰し集約されることによって日本全体の知識水準、学術水準を向上させていく事情を跡づけることができた。また徳川幕府が18世紀半頃に全国諸大名に対して命じた諸国産物調査なる事業が知られているが、今回の調査では、このおりの現地の村レベルでの動植物・鉱物についての基礎調査の関係資料を多数、確認することができた。これらは本草や博物学の発展を、政治の動向との関連において研究していく上で考慮せねばならない問題であろう。
