マッキントッシュコンピュータ上でハイパーカードを用い、促音の習得のための教材を試作した。先行研究によれば、日本語の促音の知覚には、子音区間の持続時間が関与していることが明らかにされている。これと共に、昨年までのタイ語とインドネシア語の実験結果から、先行母音と後続母音の持続時間が日本語と異なる長さで現れることがわかったので、子音区間の持続時間に加え、先行母音の持続時間、後続母音の持続時間を取り上げた。そしてこの3種類の音響的特徴をそれぞれ独立に変化させた音声を作成し、教材に用いている。教材作成時に考慮した点は、学習者にとって操作の仕方がなじみやすいもので(操作性)、促音の聞き分けができない理由が学習者にわかり、学習効果が自分でも確認できること(動機付け)、また、特殊な装置無しで一般的なパソコン上で練習に使える(共通性)である。今後、実験に使用しながら改善を加えてゆく予定である。さらに、今年度は日本語のモ-ラ音素の中の、いわゆる撥音について研究を開始した。インドネシア語とタイ語について、日本語の撥音に類似の音声を収録した。その過程で、日本語学習者に対する撥音の教え方に問題点があることが明らかになった。日本語のいわゆる撥音は音韻論的に1つの音素に当たるものと概考えて差し支えないのだが、音素というのは異音を持ち、それらは条件によって現れる場合が異なる(相補分布)。日本人にとっては同じ「音」であるためか、1つの音声のみを示し、条件による音声の違いを教えられていない学習者があることがわかった。これを考慮し、撥音の音声上の問題の中で、音声の知覚の仕方の違いによって起こる問題と、教え方による問題を分けることを検討している。
