1. MOLECULAR DESIGN OF GEL FOR ACTUATORMEMBRANE GEL WITH INTERPENETRATE NETWORK WAS DEVELOPED FROM POLY (VINYL ALCOHOL) AND 2-ACRYLAMIDE-2-METHYLPROPANE SULFONIC ACID.THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSICOCHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF THE MEMBRANE AND PHYSICAL PROPERTY (HYDRATION STRUCTURE,SWELLING) WERE ELUCIDATED.2. ANALYSIS OF BENDING MECHANISM IN THE MEMBRANETHE MEMBRANE BENT TOWARD CATHODE IN AN ELECTRIC FIELD.THE BENDING PROPERTY OF THE MEMBRANE WAS INVESTIGATED IN TERMS OF FIELD INTENSITY,IONIC GROUP CONTENT,CONCENTRATION OF OUTER ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION AND MEMBRANE THICKNESS.A ELECTROLYTIC CELL WITH 5 COMPARTMENTS WAS NEWLY DEVELOPED TO ELUCIDATE BOTH IONIC TRANSFER AND STRESS DISTRIBUTION INSIDE THE MEMBRANE IN THE BENDING PROCESS.THE DYNAMICS OF IONS AND THE MECHANICAL MECHANISM OF BENDING IN THE BENDING PROCESS WERE CLARIFIED.IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BENDING PATTERN WAS DETERMINED BY THE SPATIOTEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF IONS INSIDE THE MEMBRANE,WHICH IS INDUCED BY DONNAN EQUILIBRIUM.3. OPTIMIZATION OF THE BENDING SYSTEM FOR QUICK RESPONSEOPTIMIZATION OF THE SYSTEM FOR QUICK BENDING WAS PERFORMED BASED ON THE DONNAN EQUILIBRIUM THEORY.THE DONNAN RATIO WAS FOUND TO BE A EFFECTIVE PARAMETER IN THE DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM FOR QUICK BENDING.THEORETICAL MODEL WAS DEVELOPED BASED ON THE ELASTIC THEORY AND THE BENDING PATTERN ON TEH MEMBRANE WAS SIMULATED BY THE MODEL FAIRY WELL.
