長期のアドベンチャーキャンプの参加児童・生徒に対し、日常生活場面およびキャンプ場面で思いやり行動が必要な場面をどの程度認知し実際に行動しているか、またキャンプに参加した結果として日常生活場面での思いやり行動の認知と行動にどの程度変化が見られるかについて調査を行った。調査対象は、札幌市の青少年野外教育振興会主催の平成6年度アドベンチャーキャンプ(7月〜8月に北海道で実施)に参加した児童・生徒49名とその保護者である。調査方法としては質問紙法を用い、まずキャンプ参加者にキャンプ参加初日に日常生活場面での思いやり行動の必要性についての認知レベルと自己行動評価をさせ、次にキャンプ終了時にキャンプ場面での認知レベルと自己行動評価をさせた。同時に、具体的にどんな場面で参加者が思いやり行動をより必要と考えたかの記述を行わせた。またキャンプ後としては、キャンプ3ヶ月後の日常生活場面についての認知と自己評価をさせた。保護者に対しては、ほぼ同じ時期に参加者の日常生活についてキャンプ参加前、キャンプ参加直後、3ヶ月後の評価を行わせた。その結果、思いやり行動を必要とする場面については、日常生活場面と比較してキャンプ場面の方がより多く認知されており、自己行動評価を比較してもキャンプ場面でより多く思いやり行動をしているという結果が得られた。また思いやり行動を必要と感じた場面については、メインプログラムである登山をはじめとして、食事作りやキャンプ場での生活全般があげられていた。日常生活場面での思いやり行動の認知と自己行動評価については、キャンプ参加当初と3ヶ月後の調査を比較すると3ヶ月後の方が認知・行動評価ともに高い値を示し、キャンプ参加による効果が推察された。保護者に対する調査では、キャンプ参加直後、3ヶ月後、キャンプ参加前の順で参加者の思いやり行動がより多くなされているという結果であった。
