現在フランスでは、1975年のアビ改革による「技術・職業教育の価値を認める」という方向性を踏襲しながらもそれとは異なった観点で、1985年からシューヴヌマン改革が進められている。それは、科学技術社会への対応などを課題とし、それまでの子ども中心の観点に基づく編成から、伝統的な教育課程に移行したものであり、特に公民教育とテクノロジー教育が強調されたものであった。したがって、初等・中等教育における普通教育としての消費者教育は、シューヴヌマン改革の性格を背景にして検討されることが必要になってくる。1985年にシューヴヌマン改革では、教育:テクノロジー(Technologie)が新設され、コレージュ第一から第二学年までは「家事や手職といったタイプの作業の占める割合を減少させる」ことが、指導要領において指摘され、アビ改革時の「手工技術教育」(EMT:Education manuel et technique)的な内容は廃止された。その理由は、主婦準備のための職業指導的なEMT教育が結果的にシューベマン改革の目的である現代社会の科学・技術に対応できるテクノロジー教育という視点には合致しなかったからである。かわって、消費者教育的な内容が一層重視されるようになった。フランスの家庭科教育における消費者教育の科学化の視点は、(1)教育内容の科学性(自然科学的・社会科学的概念)、(2)教育方法の科学化(観察・実験・演習・調査等)、(3)教育の担い手の民衆性(性差のない教育)などに見いだすことができる。
