本研究の目的は、デカルト=ニュートン以来の近代的な「機械論的世界観」のもとで行われてきたこれまでの生命研究の限界を越えて、新たなパラダイムのもとで生命活動をより近似的に捉えるための概念を構想することにある。フィードバック学習理論では説明不可能な、身体運動に見られるカオス現象やゆらぎなどの実例をあげ、これらの解釈には今日既存の生理学、生体力学などの「サイバネティクス」的な身体観では限界があることを指摘する。その上でプリゴジンやハ-ケンを始めとする散逸構造やシナ-ジェティクスなどの、いわゆる「自己組織化」現象から身体コントロールのための柔軟な秩序の発生の可能性を模索する。さらに決定論、因果論を越えるために先験的に自明な「主体」概念ではなく、生成し続けることで維持される動的な秩序モデルを構想し、マトゥラ-ナの「オートポイエ-シスシステム」理論の批判的検討を行なう。最後に、これらの新たな方法によって、身体運動をより生命活動に近似させて記述することに成功した場合に可能となる新たな展望について論じる。そこにはなお依然として、(1)生体内感覚情報と生体外観察情報のパラレリズムと、(2)生命の不可逆性による一般化の困難、という二つの問題が残ることになる。
