During atmospheric entry, a maximun flight Mach number is over 25 and a very strong shock wave is generated ahead of a nose and wings. Air temperature behind such a strong shock wave becomes over 10,000K and as a result nitrogen and oxygen molecules dissociated and ionized. In addition Nitric oxide is also produced due to the combination of dissociated molecules. An arc-heated wind tunnel can be considered as one of ground test facilities to similate the atmospheric entry conditions, that is to say, a high speed flow of dissociated and ionized air. A conventional arc heater is water-cooled but this water cooling system is considerable complex and sometimes an accident of water occurs. Therfore, in the present study, a radiation-cooled arc heated is proposed instead of a water-cooled arc heater. It is the present aim to develop such a radiation-cooled arc heater and to apply it to studies of high-enthalpy flows needed for the reeentry aerodynamic heating experimentsThe following items have been done in 1997 :(1) perforamnce test of a arc-heated wind tunnel・arc current-arc voltage characteristics・test gas flow rate-arc current characteristics・arc current-stagnation enthalpy characteristics(2) thermal characterics test・stagnation heat flux measurements・estimation of stagnation enthalpy・estimation of heating efficiency
在进入大气层时,最大飞行马赫数超过25,在机头和机翼前方产生很强的激波。在如此强的冲击波后面的空气温度超过10,000K,结果氮和氧分子离解和电离。此外,由于解离分子的结合,也产生一氧化氮。电弧加热风洞可作为模拟高速电离空气流进入大气条件的地面试验设备之一。传统的电弧加热器是水冷的,但是这种水冷系统相当复杂,有时会发生水事故。因此,在本研究中,提出了一种辐射冷却电弧加热器,而不是水冷电弧加热器。1997年进行了以下工作:(1)电弧加热风洞性能试验·电弧电流-电弧电压特性·试验气体流量-电弧电流特性·电弧电流-滞止焓特性(2)热特性试验·滞止热流测量·滞止焓估算·加热效率估算
