We have made a new relational database for life science terms in English and Japanese. A number of original Life Science Dictionaries and internet servers have been made available on the Internet as freewares. A fast English-Japanese conversion Perl script 'EtoJ' is originally developed by Nobuyuki Fujita. This program scans English sentences from the beginning, word by word, and replaces a word or phrase with the corresponding Japanese word or phrase which is registered in the dictionary. This strategy is quite simple, but it enhances the 'readability' of English sentences substantially for us Japanese by emphasizing technical terms used in a particular field of science. The Life Science Dictionary for EtoJ was originally developed by Shuji Kaneko and it has been revised monthly by our Project to improve the result of translation. Yoshihiro Ugawa has developed three EtoJ servers (E-mail, Wed and Proxy) which take full advantages of Unix and the Internet. These servers convert English word to Japanese one very fast, so that they work as 'real-time' translation.
