今年度の研究実績は、調査収集資料を分析し、研究成果報告書を作成したことである。報告書は、第一部概説編・第二部史料編の二部より構成されている。概説編は、第一章明治前後の移民県、第二章明治後期・大正期の移民県で構成されている。第一章は、明治18年より同27年の期間、日本政府の取扱でハワイへ送出された官約移民を素材にして、広島・山口・熊本・福岡4県の概況とその特徴をまとめたものである。二節よりなり第一節は、官約移民が4県のどの地域より送出されたかを検討し、送出地域が移民県内でも地域的に偏在していることを、県別・郡別・町村別に移民数を集計した分析した。第二節は、移民送出の要因を広島・山口・熊本・福岡4県を中心に分析し、共通点・類似点を指摘した。第二章は、四節で構成され広島・山口・熊本・福岡4県について明治30年代から大正末までの期間のそれぞれの県における移民の概況と特徴をまとめたものである。史料編は、外交史料館所蔵「日本人民布哇国へ出稼一件(出稼人名簿ノ部)」より全国の官約移民数を県別・町村別・回数別に集計して作成した統計表を県別に収録することにした。官約移民はハワイにおける日系移民社会の基盤を形成しただけでなく、移民県の移民送出地域の基盤も多くがこの時期に形成されている。したがって町村別・回数別(移民の送出回ごと)に作成した統計表を収録することは、移民送出の基礎的研究を進める上で必要なことである。このような内容で構成された報告書の原稿は、印刷校正の段階で印刷費用と時間的制約から、概説編は第二章を削除し、史料編は、山口・熊本両県の統計表のみを収録し他は削除して印刷製本を行なった。
