Reliable high-quality full-scale damping data on buildings of various conditions have been accumulated from many organizations. Additional damping data have been collected from many journals and proceedings. All data on the dynamic properties of buildings have been amended to confirm the measured values, and to obtain necessary information, especially on measurement and evaluation techniques and vibration amplitudes as well as detailed building information. Reliable data have consequently been selected and are contained in the database.When wind-induced responses with large amplitude were observed, structural damping has also been evaluated by using random decrement technique. A modified conditional expectation enabled the random decrement technique to estimate amplitude dependencies, and derived the random decrement technique ranked by the peak amplitude. By using the proposed technique, the amplitude dependencies of the natural period and the damping ratio were clearly and efficiently evaluated.Relations between damping ratios and building properties were analyzed based on the database, especially in a large-amplitude regime. Then, a damping predictor was proposed to assess nonlinear behaviors of the dynamic properties, frequency and amplitude dependency. The accurate predictor model for damping was established to aid designers in estimating damping ratios, based on building properties.
